Fort Fisher Aquarium is hitting the road

Can’t get to the state aquarium at Fort Fisher? They are bringing the sea creatures to you.

They have a new outreach van that made a stop at Wilmington’s Halyburton Park Tuesday. The van will travel from town to town, teaching folks about marine life found along our coast.

The van is fully equipped with life support systems, and temperature controls to ensure the marine invertebrates stay healthy while on board.

Donna Moffitt, Director at Fort Fisher Aquarium said, “So many areas are having to cut back on field trips. Their budgets are being cut now, and we are able to put our animals in this vehicle, and go out to the communities.”

The van was funded through a grant from the Community Foundation of Southeastern North Carolina and the State Aquarium Foundation.
