Hair salon serves as ‘Wigs for Kids’ ambassador

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A local hair salon is kicking off the new year with a campaign to give back.

Manta’s Cuts, Childrens salon is serving as a “Wigs for Kids” ambassador. Wigs for Kids is a nonprofit that creates custom wigs for children who have lost hair due to various medical conditions.

“For the children who are selected to receive a wig, it’s free to them and their families, which can be such a blessing because a lot of times those families are already struggling with medical costs,” said Manta’s Cuts owner Jessica Dixon.

Each wig costs $1,800 to create.

As an ambassador for the nonprofit, Manta’s serves as a donation center. Whether it be money or hair, anyone can donate through the salon. Dixon hopes to raise $1,800 by February 14 to sponsor a child and give them one less thing to worry about.

“It allows them to be a kid and be self confident and I just think that’s an incredible cause.”
