911 calls released in 14-year-old’s killing

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — We’re learning more about the second Sunday homicide involving a teenager in Wilmington.

In 911 calls released this morning, callers say Aljhean Williams, 14, is lying on the ground near the intersection of Emory Street and Stewart Circle. The shooting happened around 6:30 p.m. Sunday, police said.

“He’s trying to breathe,” a female caller on scene said frantically. “He’s awake a little bit.”

Another call was put in to dispatch by a male on scene and a woman near the scene.

“There was a series of shots and somebody outside is hollering for help,” the other woman said. “I heard a car and then, there was a car but then it drove off.” The woman didn’t see the car to give the dispatcher a description.

Police said Williams was pronounced dead on scene. There have been no arrests. This is the second homicide involving a teen in Wilmington in less than a month.
