Police pursuit ends in rollover crash
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A busy Wilmington road is back to normal after a car crash this afternoon that investigators said all started as a chase. It ended with the car upside down.
It happened just before 2:30 p.m. at the Advance Auto Parts on Carolina Beach Road.
Troopers say a car led officers on a high-speed chase earlier this afternoon. There were four to five people in the car. Investigators said the driver lost control and swerved off the road hitting a gold van leaving the Advance Auto parking lot. The car flipped and landed on its roof.
Leeann Bedsaul, a manager at Advance Auto Parts, said she was on the phone with a customer when the car came flipping toward the store.
“I heard a noise and I turned around and it was a cloud of smoke and a car like in the air,” said Bedsaul. “I hung up the phone and I called the 911.”
Bedsaul said she called for help but investigators were already on scene.
“We were mainly concerned about the customers being okay, we all were alright, nothing happened inside the store, we were just worried about the people in the parking lot,” said Bedsaul.
Troopers say everyone in the car and the man in the van were taken to the hospital.
Investigators also say they found weapons and drugs in the car involved in the chase and crash.
