Woman dies in Interstate 40 accident

A woman died, and another was injured in a car accident off I-40 in Duplin County late Saturday afternoon.

A white Jeep Liberty was traveling eastbound when it drove off the road; it collided with a tree and then landed in a ditch.

A woman traveling in the car died, and another was rushed to Duplin County Hospital. It is unclear at this time who was driving. The identities of the passengers haven’t been released.

The accident is under investigation with state highway patrol.
