$5M bond set for man accused of pimping minor

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man has been charged with promoting prostitution, including of a minor.

The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office says it was conducting an investigation involving prostitution when detectives encountered Marcus Ellen Tarter, 45. Investigators say he was promoting the prostitution of a minor as well as two women over the age of 18.

Deputies booked Tarter into the New Hanover County Jail under $5 million secured bond.

A sheriff’s office spokesman says Tarter could face more charges.
