Council approves Hampton Inn changes
CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — For the second time in three months developers have asked the Carolina Beach Town Council for changes to their plans on a new hotel.
Tuesday night the Carolina Beach Town Council approved a modification to the Hampton Inn special use permit that required the hotel to provide 100 parking spots for guests and employees.
Now, the hotel needs to provide 79 parking spaces and they are able to scale down improvements to the old Palm’s lot.
Council members and developers haggled for over an hour and a half about the proposed changes.
“This was the last issue that really came over in the last month,” said Steve Shuttleworth. “There was a financial burden put on them to redevelop the lot and there was concern, and probably a legitimate concern, that they were taking spaces which were directly across from our hotel which is in our prime lot and that was really unacceptable to a lot of people who prefer that they move those spaces ”
Developers hope that they can now break ground on the hotel sometime in the next 60 days.
