Pender County resident wins prize in Saturday’s Powerball drawing
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Nine Powerball Players in North Carolina won prizes in Saturday night’s drawing — including someone in Pender County.
Officials say those North Carolina winnings ranged from $50,000 to $150,000. However, no one won the jackpot, which officials estimate will reach $1.3 billion for Wednesday’s drawing. A single winner will take home $806 million if they hit the jackpot.
Powerball sales on Saturday also set a new single-day record for lottery ticket sales in the state, with $23.3 million in sales. Carey Cobbs works at a gas station in Wilmington and said everyone seemed to by buying tickets at the last minute Saturday evening.
“It was packed, we literally didn’t have space for anyone else to come in the store because so many people were buying the Powerball ticket,” said Cobbs.
Officials say the winning Pender County ticket was sold at a Freshway Food Mart on U.S. 117 South in Rocky Point.
