Taking the plunge to help Special Olympics
The sun might have been shining Saturday, but it did little to warm up those who decided to take the polar plunge.
A huge crowd participated in this year’s event to raise money for the Special Olympics. Participants took a dip in the frigid ocean and most immediately ran right back out.
The athletes said they’re thankful that so many people came out to show their support.
“You did an outstanding job in putting this together, so I would say thank you,” said Richard Scott Hansen, a Special Olympics competitor.
Special Olympics New Hanover County provides year round sports training for people with intellectual disabilities. In New Hanover County alone over 600 athletes participate in the Special Olympics.
