ONLY ON 3: $100K ticket holders talk about win

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — How would you react if you found out you’d won the lottery? Maybe you’d be jumping up and down, or maybe you’d be laughing a little. If so, your reaction would be like the couple from Wilmington who won $100,000 in the Powerball Wednesday night.

Richard Male said Thursday was a pretty hectic day. He and his wife, Marie, came to WWAY’s studios Thursday night right after getting back from Raleigh to collect their $100,000 check.

They say they bought their winning ticket at the Speedway on Carolina Beach Road, and matched four white balls and the red Powerball. The usual $50,000 prize on the ticket was doubled thanks to the X2 Power Play.

Richard said, at first, Marie thought they’d won only $40. Then, he said she realized it was much more.

“Then, she started screaming,” Richard said. “And, then she wanted to drive around town and get the ticket checked.”

Richard said as Marie screamed, and jumped up and down after finding out, he stayed calm as he said he always does.

“Oh, I don’t get very excited,” Richard said.

Richard and Marie said they have two daughters with weddings coming up in the next year and a half. So, they said a big chunk will go to that, and the rest of the money will pay for bills.
