NC Farm Bureau members lobby lawmakers in Raleigh

RALEIGH — The North Carolina Farm Bureau Federation said hundreds of farmers will lobby lawmakers in the state Legislature.

The farmers will complain to their representatives on Wednesday that agricultural regulations are stifling their operations. Farm Bureau members also want limits on how long the General Assembly can meet each year.

The Farm Bureau said its five priorities from the Legislature include allowing livestock producers to decide for themselves how to care for their animals. Private well owners should be allowed to draw as much water from aquifers as they want rather than be limited by a state permit.

The Farm Bureau said it also wants governments to promote renewable energy technologies that consume agricultural crops or waste products.
