Local class wins books, donates some to Yahweh Center
Some elementary school kids shared their favorite books Wednesday morning.
Students in Ms. Garcia’s kindergarten class at Mary C. Williams School donated nearly 150 books to the Yahweh Center, a facility for abused and neglected children between the ages of 5 and 12.
Ms. Garcia’s class entered a contest and won more than 500 children’s books. Donating some of the books to children in need is her way of giving back to the community.
She went with various students of Mary C. Williams School to present the books to the Yahweh Center. “They were really excited because I don’t think they’ve ever had that many books,” said fifth grader Tyreak Bennerman.
Ms. Garcia’s class was one of only 200 across the nation to win the prize out of almost 16,000 classes that entered the contest.
