Another power outage planned downtown
The city’s repairs on the Water Street bulkhead are nearly complete, but not without a third power outage for surrounding businesses.
Power will be shut off next Monday from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The planned outage is a safety precaution for crews while they install a transformer.
Storeowners said it’s poor timing. “They can work around it and have some crews available. They do have supposedly emergency crews if indeed they need to work on Sunday. That would be an alternative,” said Bobby Hamelburg of Finklestein’s.
A spokesperson for Progress Energy said they are operating under the city’s schedule and simply moving the transformer so the city can complete the repairs.
A spokesperson for the city said they surveyed business owners before construction began, and they found Monday was the best day for any planned outage.
There is no plan to reimburse the owners for the lost business.
