NC author in court on various drug, fraud charges

RALEIGH — Best-selling author Kaye Gibbons will appear before a North Carolina judge on prescription drug fraud charges.

The “Ellen Foster” novelist is expected to go before a judge Monday in Wake County District Court. The 48-year-old was expected to appear in January, but the judge delayed her case. She has declined comment on the charges.

Gibbons was charged in November with obtaining property by false pretense and illegal possession of a controlled substance after an officer said Gibbons tried to pick up a prescription including the painkiller hydrocodone at a local pharmacy. Gibbons was released
from jail in November after posting $5,500 bail. She faces similar charges from an incident last summer, when she was accused of falsely identifying herself as a doctor to get a prescription filled.
