Construction helps animals cross the road

New road construction near Oak Island is helping to prevent road kill. Critter crossings have been placed under road construction off of Highway 211.

The road, which will eventually connect to the new Oak Island Bridge, now has five pipes embedded under the concrete to allow anything from raccoons to foxes to cross safely.

The tunnels have been finished even though work on the bridge has been stopped.
