NC prison bus in wreck, 2 inmates hospitalized

GREENVILLE — Police say a North Carolina prison bus has been involved in a wreck that sent two inmates and the driver of a car to a hospital.

The Daily Reflector of Greenville reported the wreck happened about 4 p.m. Thursday in Greenville when the bus was hit from behind by a car.

There were 19 inmates from the Greene Correctional Institute on the bus. Police said two inmates and the female driving the car were taken to Pitt County Memorial Hospital.

Department of Correction officials say the inmates had been working with the Department of Transportation in Greenville and were heading back to the prison.

The names and conditions of those taken to the hospital were not released.

Greene Correctional Institute is a minimum security facility for adult men, with a capacity of 656 inmates.
