Report: GMAC finance adding jobs with NC expansion

CHARLOTTE — A Charlotte city councilman says the city will get hundreds of new jobs as GMAC Financial Services expands.

The Charlotte Observer reported that Gov. Beverly Perdue would formally announce the expansion by the auto lender Friday afternoon. Neither Perdue’s office nor the state Commerce Department nor GMAC would confirm the announcement concerns the lender.

City Councilman John Lassiter told the newspaper the GMAC announcement would mean hundreds of new jobs.

The announcement would be good news for the financial community in Charlotte, where banks have slashed jobs because of the economy.

Much of the company’s senior management, such as chief executive Al de Molina, are based in Charlotte where the firm employs about 200.

Perdue will be joined by Lt. Gov. Walter Dalton for the announcement.
