Saving Cove Swamp

Lake Waccamaw and its residents are one step closer to saving Cove Swamp.

On Wednesday, Lake Waccamaw Town Council voted to contribute $1,000 to the purchase of Cove Swamp.

North Carolina provided $650,000 of the required $700,000 to buy the land from Riverstone Properties.

Riverstone had planned to clear-cut the swamp but offered to sell the land after much public opposition.

The town has already collected more than $35,000 from private donors.
