Belville residents can’t find help to fix flooding

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A rainy day leads to major problems for a group of residents in Belville’s Woodbridge neighborhood.

For years, residents in one section have face constant issues of flooding when there are heavy rains said resident Nancy Moore.

“This is just a light drizzle for some people, and you’re going to have ponding on the road, but my flooding in my back yard happens every single time it rains,” Moore said. She and her husband had to purchase a pump to pump water from her yard and the yards of neighbors.

“I have 186 gallons, per minute, of water pumping from the back yard to the front yard,” Moore said.

In the past, she says her home fell on the Leland, Belville and Brunswick County lines so there was confusion as to who was responsible for fixing the flooding.  Now Moore says the property has been declared as part of Belville town limits, but she and neighbors still get the run around from the town.

“They keep on saying the same thing over and over but never do anything about it,” said neighbor Frank Metzgar. “This morning she was saying she called and they’re not even accepting her phone call.”

WWAY reached out to several officials in Belville today and none have returned our calls or emails. In 2014, Belville commissioner Joe Breault told us the neighborhood should have never been built there.
