Furniture jobs leaving NC county in consolidation
WINSTON-SALEM — A furniture company is taking 250 jobs out of a North Carolina county as it consolidates manufacturing at a larger plant elsewhere in the state.
The Winston-Salem Journal reported Friday that La-Z-Boy Inc. plans to consolidate its plant in Wilkes County with operations in Caldwell County, where officials have given the company $500,000 in incentives.
The consolidation would add 30 jobs to the 200-employee plant in Caldwell over five years.
Wilkes County manager John Yates said county officials didn’t know the consolidation was happening and that the company wasn’t interested in a counter offer from Wilkes.
