NC conference takes on aging workforce at UNCG

GREENSBORO — A North Carolina conference aims to describe how businesses can better manage a workforce that gets grayer every year.

The gerontology program at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro holds a conference Wednesday about managing workers who are 50 and older.

Business, university and health care experts will talk about how much age matters in the workplace. The speakers include the CEO and co-founder of San Francisco-based market research company SharpBrains, who’s focusing on the mental fitness of a mature workforce.

The UNCG organizers say about 17 percent of the country’s workers will be 55 and older next year. That figure is expected to rise to nearly 20 percent by 2015.
