Dog recovering after brutal attack

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Deputies said one of two dogs stabbed in New Hanover County earlier this week is recovering.

Deputies said Lorraine Villanueva stabbed two dogs on Welch Way. One of the dogs died.

Daisy, the English Bulldog that was also attacked, was rushed to an emergency vet and had surgery. Deputies said she had 15 sutures on her neck from the attack and is walking around and drinking water. Deputies also said she should be at the vet through the weekend but is eager to play.

Master Deputy J. Gonnelli stopped by to check on Daisy, who is deaf but understands sign language! Deputy Gonnelli is one of the deputies who responded to the animal cruelty call and found Daisy convulsing on the floor.  He tended to her neck wounds and kept her calm until Animal Control got there and took her to the hospital.
