NC Legislature honors late NC State coach Kay Yow

RALEIGH — North Carolina’s Legislature is joining the number of people remembering late North Carolina State University women’s basketball coach Kay Yow for her life and accomplishments.

The state House and Senate plan to approve a resolution honoring Yow on Monday.

Yow died at age 66 in January after a long fight against cancer.

The Hall of Fame basketball coach took over at N.C. State in 1975 and led the Wolfpack women to more than 700 victories.

Yow was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, but led the U.S. Olympic women’s team to a gold medal the following season. The disease recurred during the 2004-05 season, forcing her to leave her team twice in past seasons to focus on treatment even as she raised money for research and cancer awareness.
