New Hanover County employees back to work after mandatory furlough

New Hanover County employees are back to work today after a mandatory furlough day Monday.

After layoffs and a hiring freeze, county employees are still required to take ten furlough days to help with the county’s budget crunch.

The effort is the county’s way of balancing the budget without increasing property taxes.
