FIRST ON 3 UPDATE: Woman charged with sister’s murder after Carolina Beach shooting
CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — A woman has been charged with her sister’s murder after a shooting this morning in Carolina Beach.
Carolina Beach Police say the first calls came in just before 7:30 a.m. reporting shots fired in the 600 block of Carolina Beach Ave. S. Police Chief Ken Hinkle says when officers got to a condo there, they found a woman who was shot.
“Please send an ambulance quick. She’s been shot,” a 911 caller, who is also the suspect’s husband said.
The dispatcher asked the caller, “Where is the assailant?”
The caller continued on to say, “It’s my wife and it was an accident. She shot her sister by accident.”
Later on he told the dispatcher, “She’s shot in the chest. She’s shot in the chest. It looks like serious bleeding.”
At an afternoon news conference, District Attorney Ben David and Chief Hinkle said Joyce Goldberg has been charged with the second-degree murder of her sister Glenda Henry Bordeaux. She is in jail under $287,000 bond.
Police say Goldberg’s husband was also there when the shooting happened. They took him in for questioning, but later released him.
Investigators won’t say yet what may have led to the shooting.
Police say they believe the last murder in Carolina Beach happened back in 2003.
