Lavin and husband receive Community Recognition Award

Two Wilmington thespians were honored for their efforts in keeping the arts alive in the Port City.

The Wilmington Rotary Club presented Tony-award-winning actress Linda Lavin and her husband Steve Bakunas with a Community Recognition Award at its meeting Tuesday.

Lavin and Bakunas are long-time Wilmington residents and the masterminds behind the Red Barn Studio Theatre. “It’s an incredible honor to receive it. It’s just one of those things where you go along in life and you do the things that you really love to do and you trust that whatever comes across your path is the right thing and you just keep moving forward,” said Bakunas.

The Red Barn Studio Theatre is at Third and Marstellar Streets in Wilmington. Around it, Steve and Linda have renovated several dilapidated and abandoned homes.
