Lawmakers begin to redraw unconstitutional House district

State lawmakers will begin figuring out how to redraw State House districts in Pender and New Hanover counties on Tuesday.

In March, the US Supreme Court ruled the 18th House District, that snakes from downtown Wilmington into western Pender County, is an unconstitutional minority-influence district.

A State House committee will hold a public hearing on redistricting the two counties Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Legislative Office Building in Raleigh. You have to sign up by 5:30 p.m. to speak. If you can’t make it to the meeting, click here to submit comments online.
