Accident claims the life of West Brunswick High senior
Just two weeks before high school graduation, a car crash has claimed the life of a West Brunswick senior. The accident happened Thursday night on Royal Oak Road, just north of Shallotte.
Five teenagers, all from West Brunswick High, were heading home for the night, when the driver lost control and veered off the road. He over corrected, crossed the road, and hit a tree. Jacob Moseley, 18, was sitting in the back seat and was killed at the scene. Another passenger is hospitalized in critical condition.
“It is a feeling you can’t describe, as you spend 7 hours a day with these kids, you get attached to them,” said West Brunswick principal George Kelley. “Losing them is like losing a part of your family. Obviously a senior, fixing to graduate on June 13th, and he’s not here anymore.”
Friday was a teacher work day, so West Brunswick students had the day off. Superintendent Katie McGee said grief counselors will be at the school on Monday.
