West Brunswick students remembered Thursday night

Students are gathering at First Baptist Church in Shallotte Thursday night to remember two West Brunswick high students who lost their lives in a fatal car crash.

The death of the two teenagers comes right around graduation time, a time when students usually gather to celebrate.

However, two young lives were lost on Royal Oaks Road in Brunswick County.

Jacob Moseley and Caleb Hawkins were passengers in a car driven by 17-year-old Joseph Moreno.

They had just left a party not far from the crash site. The cause of the crash was speed.

This all comes at a time when these students would normally be celebrating high school graduation, and the start of summer, but instead, West Brunswick students and friends and family of Jacob and Caleb are mourning.

Keith Wilson is a youth pastor at First Baptist Church in Shallotte and encourages his young church members to make smart and safe choices when out with their friends. “We really need as a community to provide a safe place to go. Without the pressures of the world, doing the things they shouldn’t have been doing.”

The church is hosting its own graduation celebration for members and West Brunswick High School students with hopes of encouraging safe celebratory practices.
