County Commission approves Ed McMahon for sheriff

New Hanover County officially has a successor for Sheriff Sid Causey. Monday, the County Commission approved Chief Deputy Ed McMahon for the job. He will replace Causey, who took early retirement and steps down June 30.

McMahon said he will spend the next few weeks working hard to get ready for his new job. “I have some changes I want to make, but I’m going to wait until, probably, the beginning of July,” he said. “We’ll kind of talk about some of those things, but I just want to keep serving the citizens as the best that we can.”

Commissioners will discuss how much they will pay McMahon at their June 22nd meeting. McMahon said he is not worried about the money.

It is a big week for McMahon. Saturday, he will walk his daughter down the aisle at her wedding.
