Leland Police to dispose of old prescription medicine

If you have old or expired prescription drugs lying around, there’s a place for you to drop them off.

The Leland Police Department has installed a prescription drop box at their headquarters.

In an effort to prevent prescription drugs from getting in the wrong hands, the police will properly dispose of the medication.

The drop box will also prevent people from flushing their medication down the toilet, which can act as a source of pollution in wastewater.

“If anyone opens their medicine cabinet, they’ll find that their medications have expired sometimes one year, two years past it’s date, well why we save it, we don’t know,” said Corporal Rober Ernest of the LPD.

The police department hopes this program will end the growing problem of drug abuse and accidental overdose in the area.
