Carolina Beach Boardwalk extension work starts next week

CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The Town of Carolina Beach says work will start next week on the northern extension of the Carolina Beach Boardwalk.

The project will extend the wooden boardwalk from the Harper Ave. Beach Access north to the Pelican Lane Beach Access. The town says the work will include grading, demolition and rebuilding of the Pelican Lane Access and several private beach accesses, and construction of a new public wooden boardwalk and three public beach accesses.

Construction will begin the week of March 14 and continue through late June, the town says.

For safety and security, temporary fencing will be placed along the oceanfront side of the project site. Public and private beach accesses will remain open to the extent possible, but the town says temporary closings will be necessary. Signage and fencing will be used to direct pedestrians to nearby open beach accesses when closings are necessary.

The town says it and its contractor will make every effort to ensure the construction causes as little inconvenience as possible for businesses, the public and affected property owners.
