DOT: 3rd Street bridge will not be ready by Azalea Festival

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The project to replace a Downtown Wilmington bridge has hit a speed bump.

According to a NCDOT spokesman, inclement weather has delayed the completion of the 3rd Street bridge, which was supposed to be done in time for the Azalea Festival. The first of many ceremonies for the festival is in four weeks.

The spokesman said the project’s new completion date is end of April or early May. He said other than the existing detour, there shouldn’t be any other impacts on the festival.
