Stargazers in Sunset Beach now have some new hi-tech equipment to help them learn about the cosmos.

The Ingram Planetarium held its seasonal grand re-opening today.

While closed, the planetarium upgraded. It now has a Sci-dome HD Digital Projection System. The planetarium is now the third in the world to have the technology. It’s the final phase of a $255,000 project.

The planetarium had four shows on its opening day.

Executive Director Scott Kucera said, ”We have two primary audiences which are students and teachers who are doing classroom extensions. We have curriculum-based programs. The other audience is residents and tourists with families.”

About 30,000 people visit the Ingram Planetarium each year.
