Man who shot self during NC standoff dies
ROCKY MOUNT, N.C. — A man who authorities say barricaded himself in a North Carolina house for nearly 20 hours and then shot himself has died.
The Rocky Mount Telegram reports that 22-year-old Thomas Rose died at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville. Scott Wheeler, a director at Wheeler and Woodlief Funeral Home in Rocky Mount, confirmed the death Wednesday night. The funeral home is handling the arrangements.
The standoff began Monday when officers tried to arrest Rose at a home in Rocky Mount. Officers surrounded the house and nearby homes were evacuated.
Deputies were trying to serve warrants for a probation violation and a larceny charge when the incident began.
