Millions doled out for community safety

More than $62 million is heading to state and local agencies to improve community safety and assist crime victims.

The Governor’s Crime Commission awarded the federal dollars to 315 programs across the state.

In our area, about $621,000 will go to organizations in Bladen County, $443,000 to Brunswick, and more than $234,000 to Columbus County.

New Hanover will see well over a million dollars in grant money, while programs in Pender County will get about $107,000.
