Report: Drowning victim rode mo-ped past roadblock
GREENSBORO — Authorities in North Carolina say the woman who drowned in a rain-swollen creek apparently rode her mo-ped past a roadblock intended to keep her from trying to ride through the water.
The News & Record of Greensboro reported on its Web site Thursday that 50-year-old Roseanne Marie Minton Tippett of Browns Summit drowned Wednesday evening after jumping into the creek and being swept away.
The Guilford County Sheriff’s Office said a state Highway Patrol trooper was blocking traffic at the creek after it overwashed the road. Investigators say Tippett rode into the creek, but was rescued after the trooper used a rope from his cruiser to pull her to safety.
While the trooper went back to his car, Tippett jumped into the creek again and was swept away.
