CFCC students help local youth learn proper etiquette

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) –Sit up straight. Elbows off the table. The salad fork goes on the left. Do you follow those rules? You’ve probably seen  people not minding their manners and worse. Some Cape Fear kids got a life lesson early etiquette.

Cape Fear Community College students helped out some kids from the New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church by teaching them etiquette.

Wednesday night the students put their skills to the test at a dinner.

Mary McMillian, who participated in the class, said she took a lot away from this class.

“It’s easy. As long as you try, some people don’t want to do it, some people say it’s too hard, it’s easy as long as you listen and follow directions,” said McMillian.

And while the kids learned how to conduct themselves in a restaurant CFCC culinary and restaurant management students were hard at work preparing and serving the meal.

“We basically taught a class about teaching other little kids about how to act in a social environment,” said Joseph Ciolino a CFCC student who helped teach the class.

The etiquette class participants ages ranged from 10 to 16.
