Michael’s Seafood wins chowder cook-off

A Carolina Beach seafood restaurant is an international champion tonight. Michael’s Seafood competed in the 28th Annual Schweppes International Great Chowder Cook-off in Rhode Island… and won!

Owners Michael and Shelly McGowan took home the title of International Seafood Chowder Champions. They won $1,000 and bragging rights of having the best chowder.

They served 150 gallons of chowder to 20,000 people who voted for the best. Michael’s beat out seven other contestants.

Michael McGowan said he’s thrilled about the win. And all the left over winning batch of chowder was donated to a Rhode Island soup kitchen.
