Car exceeding 100 mph kills 2 on motorcycles in NC

PEMBROKE, N.C. — Police in North Carolina say a woman driving a car faster than 100 mph jumped railroad tracks and slammed into two motorcycles, killing two bikers and injuring a third person.

The Fayetteville Observer reported Monday that the accident happened late Friday in the Robeson County town of Pembroke.

Pembroke Police Chief Dwayne Hunt says the driver of the car never braked as she sped into town and lost control. The motorcycles were hit as they were turning into a gas station lot.

Hunt says Virginia C. Locklear of Lumberton died instantly. She was a passenger on one bike. The driver was critically injured. Hunt said Marie D. Locklear of Pembroke was alone on the other bike and was killed.
