McCrory says no to extending current film incentive plan
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Gov. Pat McCrory was in town today taking a tour of Wilmington Health. The governor toured the facility as a part of a larger Medicaid reform initiative.
We took the opportunity to ask the governor about the looming question over film incentives.
McCrory says he does not have the money in the budget for a one-year extension of the current incentives. Instead he says he’s pushing ahead with incentive reform.
“It will be a reform of the current system, which will ensure that we have more incentives for long-term infrastructure and long term production facilities as opposed to a very short-term return on investments,” McCrory said.
Supporters of film incentives say a grant plan for film currently in the legislature would push film out of the state.
