Coast Guard puts anchors away, gets out hammers and screwdrivers
Members of the Coast Guard’s Marine Safety Unit helped build a new home for Habitat for Humanity on Prices Lane in Wilmington.
On the job, the unit is responsible for things like homeland and port security and vessel inspections around the Cape Fear River basin.
Even though they serve our country full time, they want to serve the community, as well.
“It’s not just our duty to serve our country for our jobs, but to come out and serve our people. We’re people, too. We’re your neighbors. We’re your friends. We’re the people in the grocery store, so there’s no reason why we shouldn’t be out here community serving with everyone else,” said Kenny Tucker of the Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit.
