Military builds temporary seaport off NC coast

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. — The U.S. military’s unique capability to build a temporary seaport is on display off the coast of North Carolina.

For the past week, more than 1,000 soldiers and sailors have simulated transporting needed food, water and other relief supplies to shore after a hurricane. Soldiers and sailors constructed a modular floating pier and are moving the cargo to shore on small floating barges. The exercise ends Thursday.

Civilian boaters are not restricted, but are asked not to interfere with the training.
