Construction begins on Wilmington’s newest park

The city of Wilmington is set to begin construction on what will be one of its largest parks.

On Wednesday, a ground-breaking ceremony was held at the future site of Olsen Park, off Murrayville Road.

The park is a joint city-county project funded by the 2006 Parks and Greenspace Bond.

Some of the highlights of the new park will be five softball fields, a picnic shelter and a playground.

“One of the reasons that a lot of people move into our community is because of quality of life and we want to continue having a good quality of life and one of those mainstays is recreation facilities,” said Mayor Bill Saffo.

The park should be ready for people to enjoy early next year.
