Summer is a W.A.R.M. time of year

After helping make home repairs following Hurricane Bertha and Fran, a group called W.A.R.M. began assisting those less fortunate with more basic home fixes.

The volunteers from W.A.R.M. showed up at a local family’s doorstep today. They were called angels.

Mary Moses passed away this morning after her kidneys gave in. She spent months filling out an application to have her home fixed up by the organization W.A.R.M.

Wednesday, her prayers were answered.

“The day that she died, that’s the day everybody came along, and helped fix the house up,” said Tashina Johnson whose family’s house is being repaired.

Down the street, volunteers were at Mildred Gregory’s home.

“They all come in and do all this wonderful work, something that I wouldn’t have been able to do. I probably would have been able to do it, but it would have taken me a hundred years to pay for it,” Mildred Gregory said.

For these residents, a little help can go a long way. Before they know it, their homes will be repaired and ready to be enjoyed.

Homeowners who are eligible for the warm program must own a home in the five county area, and must have an income of fifty percent or less than the county’s median income.
