Search is on for 2 kids missing in NC mountains

BAKERSVILLE, N.C. — Authorities are searching for two young children missing at a western North Carolina mountain park near the Tennessee state line.

The Mitchell County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday that a search is being conducted for 6-year-old Alexander Lee Suddeath and 4-year-old Heidi Elizabeth Suddeath. An Amber Alert statement issued by the office said the children may have been abducted, but didn’t give any details on how that might have happened.

The office said the children’s parents were returning to a parking lot on Roan Mountain when they lost sight of the children.

Alexander Suddeath was wearing a yellow shirt and blue shorts. His sister was wearing a pink skirt and purple shirt.
