UPDATE: Six people, pets escape house fire

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Fire officials are working to determine what caused an overnight house fire.

New Hanover County Deputy Fire Marshal Ray Griswold said six people were inside when the fire broke out around 3:30 a.m. in the 4400-block of Robin Dale Court. Griswold said the majority of the fire damage was in the upper bedrooms, but there was also smoke and water damage.

Six people were inside, as well as pets like dogs and a bird, he said. Griswold said the occupants only suffered minor injuries, naming one victim with burns to hands as an example.

Fire crews believe the incident was accidental but have not released a formal cause, Griswold said.
