Women plead guilty to prostitution charges surrounding Brunswick County sex sting

A lawyer for six women, all employees of two businesses allegedly soliciting sex, pleaded guilty on their behalf in court Wednesday.

The defendants were not in court, but sentenced to probation within the state of North Carolina.

The six women, all employees at two businesses, Sun Spa in Longwood, and Smile Spa in Thomasboro, pleaded guilty to all charges of prostitution.

“They were placed on a period of probation, and all of their personal documents were returned to them. The $47,200 that was seized and was ordered by statute into the North Carolina general fund,” said Brunswick Assistant District Attorney Chris Thomas.

The Sun Spa and Smile Spa were raided by the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Department nearly two weeks ago.

According to the District Attorney’s Office, none of the six women involved in today’s hearing are U.S. citizens.

They believe the Korean women used fake passports to get into the country, and now may be in Georgia or New Jersey.

We drove by both businesses are they are apparently closed.

Two other businesses involved in the raid, Close Encounters and Playmates, remain open. The women at those two locations were charged with illegal massage, and drug charges. Their court date hasn’t been set.
