Traditional Scottish athletics come to town with Cape Fear Highland Games

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Traditional Scottish athletics found their way to the area for the Cape Fear Highland Games Saturday.

This is the second year for the event which draws hundreds of people. Spectators watched athletes compete by tossing the caber and throwing the hammer. Organizer Ben Shaw said it’s a unique experience that offers something for everyone.

“There’s not any Scottish festivals or Highland games that close to here, so you can just kind of learn about the Scottish heritage and Scottish events, and also have a lot of fun,” Shaw said.

Proceeds from the event are going to the MARSOC foundation to provide support to families of Marines and sailors who have lost their lives in service.
