Man acquitted of trying to kill deputy

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A New Hanover County man was found not guilty of attempted murder after he was accused of trying to kill a New Hanover County Sheriff’s deputy three years ago.

The District Attorney’s Office says Darius Hester, 26, was found guilty of possession of a firearm but not guilty of first-degree attempted murder Friday.

Dep. Joshua Cranford says he stopped Hester in 2013 and says Hester pulled out a gun, aimed it at him and pulled the trigger. Cranford then shot Hester as he ran away.
